Verse for March 7th

Luke 6.35

But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

Wednesday, 7 March

Jesus calls us to live radical and unconditional lives.  A call to a generosity that always gives and never expects anything back.

It’s a challenge!  But what a difference it would make to the our relationships, our communities and our world.

Not easy but my mum told me I should lend without expectation of return.  Not quite the same but a generous spirit gives without hope of return.  The result could be surprising!

A new kind of bookselling

Some books for sale through the bookstall at St Albans Cathedral are published by the author giving them and the buyer give the £10 donation to St Albans Cathedral Trust. In this way there is a double gift. The Gift Aid implications are being discussed.

Is God is kind to the ungrateful and wicked, even though they do not ask for it?  What about the teaching that we have to ‘knock’ before we can enter, or presumably, ask, before we receive kindness?  I am genuinely curious.

Today’s challenge.

Give us generous hearts Lord. All things come from you; may we use what you have given us in a way that honours you.
